Technical Settings

Lighting Fundamentals

Best Option: Natural Light

  • Position subject facing a window
  • Shoot during daytime
  • Avoid direct sunlight (causes harsh shadows)
  • Overcast days provide best natural light

Ring Light Setup

  • Position 2-3 feet from subject
  • Eye level or slightly above
  • Adjust brightness to avoid washing out skin
  • Test before filming all videos

Avoid

  • Overhead fluorescent lighting (causes unflattering shadows)
  • Backlighting (subject too dark)
  • Mixed lighting temperatures (color cast issues)

Audio Excellence

Critical: 85% of viewers watch without sound, so captions are essential, but when you DO use audio, it must be high quality.

The 30-Second Rule

Why 30 seconds maximum?

  • Attention spans are short
  • Short-form videos tap into short attention spans, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts prioritize bite-sized content
  • Easier to produce (less filming, faster editing)
  • Better platform performance
  • Forces you to be concise

The Hook Formula

You have 3 seconds to capture attention.

Test Your Hook: Ask yourself: “Would I stop scrolling for this?”
